Frequently Asked Questions

What is Physiotherapy?

Physiotherapy is a healthcare profession, which assists people to restore, maintain and maximize their strength, function, movement, and overall well being. Physiotherapy includes rehabilitation, as well as prevention of injury, and promotion of health and fitness. Physiotherapy may include a variety of therapeutic tools including: manual therapy, exercise therapy, acupuncture, massage, electrotherapeutic agents and education.

Do I need a doctor’s referral for physiotherapy?

Physiotherapy is a direct access health care service, therefore, a doctor’s referral is not required to access care. Some insurance providers may require a doctor’s referral before providing coverage. Contact your insurance provider for details regarding what is required by your plan.

Do you treat auto and work injuries?

We are an accredited ICBC and Work Safe BC injury primary care facility. As of December 22, 2017, Pro Physioworks' contract with WorkSafeBC (WSBC) has expired and we have chosen to not renew this contract. We are able to assess and treat patients privately (with a fee for service). Workers should contact WSBC regarding possible reimbursement.

Do you bill directly to Private Insurance (e.g. Blue Cross, Great West Life, Standard Life)?

Yes, we like to send a progress report when you are seeing your physician, so please inform your therapist a few days in advance if possible. Reports requested by lawyers, employers, and insurance companies will also be provided as long as a Release of Information form is completed by the client.

What should I bring to my session?

  • Doctor's referral if you have one.

  • Care card, ICBC/WCB number, case manager's name as needed.

  • Comfortable exercise apparel and shoes. You may want to bring a sleeveless top or shorts if you have a shoulder/lower extremity problem. Occasionally you may get damp from the modalities, so you may also want to bring some extra pants/shirt.

  • Work/athletic shoes or orthotics if applicable.

Is there a charge for missed appointments?

We require 24 hours notice for cancellations. Missed or cancelled appointments with less than 12 hours notice may be charged the full private service fee.
